I spend more and more time at my desk these days, doing everything from preparing my children’s ministry lesson plans to working on this blog. Because of this, my workspace is constantly changing. Holding the clutter at bay is challenging, so I prefer to keep nearby only a few quality items that serve multiple purposes over a stockpile of things I might never need.
I like to work from home but sometimes that looks different. Right now I’m chilling under a blanket on my couch, but earlier I was sitting at my dining room table. I also work away from home teaching classes sometimes so it varies! I’m going to share with you my “have to have” things that go with me when I move workspaces as well.
The number one thing I couldn’t live without is a good notebook. I am obsessed with notebooks and I’m proud to say that in 2020 I will have used up all the pages in my beautiful mess of a notebook. I’ll write more about this notebook someday but basically, if I need to remember something, it goes in that book. That way I don’t have important things in 4 different places. I call it my dump book!
The next thing I have to have is a planner! I like my physical planner so much that I take the time to sync it with my phone planner (that I use to jot things down and remind my husband of important events!) so that I have everything in front of me at all times.
At my physical desk I have my laptop and phone charger. These travel with me as well. If I don’t have a phone charger I tend to wear my battery down too much because I use my phone for my business so it’s necessary to have it.
I also have a little 3 drawer storage box on my desk. Some would say this is too much, however, I need to have it for sticky notes, notecards, tape, etc. for all the random things I need that I don’t want to stand up for but I use often enough to justify it.
Next to my desk hanging on the wall is a paper organizer that I use for sorting things I need to get done but don’t want to keep on my desk. It also holds printer paper and laminating sheets! This has been a lifesaver to keep any clutter at bay!
Other things I have on or within arms reach of my desk:
- Printer
- Books I’m currently reading
- File box
- Blanket for when I’m cold!
- Earbuds
- Inspirational quotes
- Coaster because I have to have a beverage on hand at all times
What’s on your desk that you couldn’t live without?? Let me know in the comments!
